This yearโ€™s Helston Fatstock Show, held at Franchis Farm by kind permission of Mr. Bob and Mr. Don Cowell, saw record entries and visitor numbers, making it one of the most successful events to date.

In keeping with the showโ€™s tradition of supporting a charity chosen by the Show President, this yearโ€™s beneficiary was The League of Friends of Helston Community Hospital, which helps fund essential equipment and enrichment for our local hospital.

The Show Day Charity Auction received tremendous support and, under the expert conductorship of Ed Harris of Lodge & Thomas, raised an impressive ยฃ2,250.

Helston Community Hospital is a deeply valued part of the town, built in 1923 and funded by the people of Helston as a memorial to the more than 200 local men who lost their lives in the First World War.

On the evening of Monday 24th November, the Helston Fatstock Show committee met at the Whealdream, where Show President Mr. David Nicholas presented Mrs. Helen Nelson, Chairman of The League of Friends of Helston Community Hospital, with a cheque for ยฃ2,250. The committee extends its heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this outstanding result.

Responding to the showโ€™s Facebook announcement, the charity commented:
โ€œWhat a fantastic amount. Thank you on behalf of The League of Friends of Helston Community Hospital. We very much appreciate the hard work and generosity put in by everyone to make the show such a success, and those who bought the items in the auction. That amount means such a lot to our charity.โ€

During the evening, Mr. Roger Richards also presented Mr. Christopher Eva with an Honorary Life Member Certificate in recognition of his commitment and invaluable help to the Helston Fatstock Society for 50 years. Over this time, he held several offices, including Secretary, Vice Chairman, Chairman, and Trophy Steward.

This year also marked 20 show years at Franchis Farm. Sincere thanks were expressed to Mr. Don Cowell for kindly hosting the event, and he was presented with a framed Show Day photograph from the Helston Fatstock Show committee as a token of their appreciation.

Valerie Care, one of our dedicated show secretaries was also presented with a beautiful bouquet in recognition of her exceptional hard work and seamless behind-the-scenes organisation.

The committee gives thanks to Barry and the rest of the Whealdream staff for a very enjoyable evening and a DELICIOUS carvery meal!
